" Software platform CIVA was installed in Tomsk Polytechnic University in December, 2015. The reason for that was the necessity of Tomsk Open Laboratory for Material Inspection (TOLMI) in universal software for NDT result simulation. Based of Laboratory requirements, the following modules have been acquired:
- Ultrasound testing module;
- Radiography-Tomography module.
In March 2016 the Laboratory staff has been trained to use CIVA. During the workshop theoretical bases of the software platform were given briefly, but emphasis was made upon practical use. The tasks were prepared in a manner that allowed getting practical knowledge on all features of CIVA. Besides, the tutor Roman Fernandez, who is development manager of EXTENDE company, was always there to get feedback on all questions arisen and ready to help with all issues that we had while task execution. Thus, the workshop allowed TOLMI staff to have got basic knowledge on software CIVA features, opportunities and fileds of its application.
Besides, in June, 2016 there was software platform CIVA upgrade. It is important to notice that we received full support for making this possible, which is why the upgrade transition was trouble-free.
By far, software platform CIVA upgrade has been applied for the problem solving as follows:
- choice of experiment optimal parameters in UT NDT field;
- verification of algorithms for ultrasound imaging developed at TOLMI;
- verification of algorithms for computer tomography developed at TOLMI.
Based on the challenges the Laboratory has faced, submodule Inspection Simulation has been actively used (Ultrasonic Testing module), submodule CT Simulation has been actively used (module Radiography-Tomography). CIVA has proved itself as powerful and universal tool for NDT result simulation. The most important feature of the software is a wide choice of standard geometries of tested objects. If there is no suitable one, your own CAD-file can be uploaded. The second important feature defining utmost performance of platform CIVA is the possibility to use the vast majority of defects found in NDT practice. The third important feature is the ability to export data from the CIVA software package that makes it possible to work with it in other programs. Besides, while using CIVA all our questions have got complete and comprehensive support from EXTENDE company staff. "
