TraiNDE UT shadowing effect

The “shadowing effect” is extensively used in the interpretation of results – detection, sizing and characterization. It can either be a trick that helps to confirm the diagnosis, or a trap when it is the only information available to perform the diagnosis.

TraiNDE UT can help trainees understand and remember this phenemenon with on of the several steel sheet inspection cases using a normal beam. The teacher has only to start one example and show students how delamination with and without tilt can affect the backwall echo.
