Friday, April the 22nd is Earth Day!
As part of our commitment to environmental sustainability, EXTENDE is certified in accordance with ISO 14001:2004. In addition to the many steps taken by EXTENDE to be a good global citizen, employees and their families have come up with some creative ways to “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle” at home.
One of these is the creation of papier mâche sculptures. The mother of EXTENDE Inc., Vice President Erica Schumacher reuses old newspapers to create beautiful papier mâche sculptures, complete with a patina that gives the illusion of antique copper. When possible, she even reuses objects such as bottles or coat hangers to create the forms on which the sculptures are built. This carousel horse and baseball player are examples of just two of the many sculptures she has made. Other creations include cats, turtles, fish, heron, and abstracts. Many adorn her home, while others are occasionally sold in local art galleries and at local art festivals. She also occasionally teaches workshops on this eco-friendly form of art work, helping people learn to create their own recycled art.
